 The cost is $20. No need to sign up. Just bring whatever you’re working on and your machine (if you’ve got one), and sew in the company of someone who can help and answer questions. easy pillowcases for kids and adults

This is a one-time workshop that will meet on Saturday, July 26 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

Those who have completed our Machine-Sewing 101 class (and others with basic sewing machine knowledge) are invited to join Heidi Rupke for this gratifying (and somewhat magical) process of making fabulous piped pillowcases! This workshop is for adults and kids, ages 8 and up, but 6 & 7 year-olds may attend with adult friends who have basic sewing knowledge. (Adult/child pairs need only to sign up for one spot).

 

Don’t miss this chance to practice using a rotary cutter, learn how to sew French seams, and complete an attractive project in a short amount of time!

 

Participants may bring their own machines or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Note: Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Easy Pillowcases Workshop. Those who prefer to sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) may do so during Sew Memphs business hours.

 

In addition to the workshop fee, participants will need to purchase/provide enough fabric to make two pillowcases. All supplies are available at Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount:

 

For two standard size pillowcases:
  • 1.5 yards main fabric (in two 3/4 yard pieces)
  • 1/2 yard coordinating fabric for cuff, in two 1/4 yard pieces (sometimes a solid looks really great here)
  • 3.5 inches for piping, in two 1.75 inch strips (sometimes a solid stands out here as well)

Craft Fair Booth 101

This is a one-time workshop on Sunday, July 27 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

 

Join local artist and entrepreneur, *Debi Vincent, as she shares best practices for applying and preparing for local craft fairs!

 

Indoor or outdoor? Table or tent? Cash, check, or charge?

 

All of these small decisions can make a big impact on the outcome of your booth. In this workshop, you will learn how to choose the shows best suited for you and your product, what to expect on the application, and how to set an effective production schedule. You will also receive a copy of THE LIST of “Show Day Must Haves” and benefit from Debi’s tips for engaging new customers.

 

This fun and comprehensive class will have you feeling confident an well-prepared to jump in to the craft fair scene!

 

Note: Debi will also be teaching Craft Fair Branding, Marketing Materials, and Merchandising on August 10. These workshops are best taken as a pair but can also be taking a la carte.

machine-sewing 101 for kids and adults

We’ve added another session of this popular workshop on Saturday, August 9 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

 

This workshop is for adults and kids ages 8 and up but 6 & 7 year-olds may attend with adult friends. (Adult/child pairs need only to sign up for one spot.)

 

Whether you just got a new sewing machine or you’ve had one for years that you’re afraid to touch, this workshop is for you!* Just bring your machine and your manual, and join Sarah Terry for step-by-step instruction on how to thread the needle, wind the bobbin, and perform other amazing feats! This workshop is for basic sewing only. No toy machines, embroidery machines, or machines that utilize computerized design programs please!

 

Participants will apply these skills toward making pincushions to use in future sewing projects.

 

All supplies are included in the $35 workshop fee.

 

*Those who do not own machines but would like to take advantage of this beginning sewing class may rent one of four shop machines for the workshop. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Machine-Sewing 101 workshop. This is a one-session workshop on Sunday, August 10 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

 

You’ve been accepted to a craft fair. Congratulations! You’ve made a lot of your product! Hurray! Now what?

 

Join local artist and entrepreneur, *Debi Vincent, as she shares best practices for craft fair branding, marketing, and merchandising.

 

Participants will benefit from Debi’s instruction on defining your brand (the overall look and feel of your company), creating smart marketing materials (even on a tiny budget), and implementing impactful merchandising and product displays. Alterations Workshop with Haley

This is a one-session workshop from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

 

Sewists with basic machine knowledge are invited to learn Haley Franklin‘s secrets for sprucing up those sidelined garments in your closet! Haley worked in costume design in Los Angeles before her move to Memphis, and her sewing and design skills were recently debuted in the Ballet Memphis production of Peter Pan!

 

Each participant will bring a garment that needs some TLC, from hemming, to patching, to taking in and letting out, to embellishing. Students will make adjustments to their own pieces and learn from each other’s projects as well.

 

Participants may bring their own machines or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Those who prefer not to sign up online may sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) during Sew Memphis business hours.
