Dahlia Dress Series

This is a two-session series that meets on Tuesday and Thursday, September 15 and 17 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Adults with basic garment-sewing skills are invited to join Haley Franklin  in making this classic, year-round Dahlia dress by Colette Patterns. Haley worked in costume design in Los Angeles before her move to Memphis, and her sewing and design skills are currently debuted in Ballet Memphis productions.

The Dahlia dress is an intermediate dress pattern. Students will get the chance to learn/review zipper closures, waist yokes, strategically-placed gathers, and facing short cuts in the process of sewing this beautiful, custom-fit garment. Participants may choose to make the 3/4-sleeved raglan-style version or a strappy summer cocktail dress version. The pattern fits sizes 0 – 26.

Participants may bring their own machines or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with Dahlia Dress Series tickets. Those who prefer not to sign up online may sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) during Sew Memphis business hours.

Students will need to purchase/provide the Dahlia dress pattern, 3 yards of 1/4″ double-fold bias tape, a 14″ invisable zipper, thread, a hand-sewing needle, and 2.5 – 3.5 yards of fabric, depending upon size and version preferred. Voiles and cotton lawn fabrics work well. All supplies are available at Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount.

Adults with basic sewing skills are invited to join Haley Franklin  in making this eye-catching Amy Butler jacket, perfect for fall! The duster can be made with an outer fabric and contrasting collar or an all-over patchwork look. Keep it long for a dramatic effect or hem it shorter for a more casual style. This is a great workshop for those wishing to learn basic garment-sewing skills such as creating sleeves, working with linings, sewing button holes, using interfacing, and pattern-fitting.
