Open Instruction during the week of July 28 – August 3 will be:
  • Wednesday, July 30  from 1:30  - 4:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 31 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 3 from 1:00- 4:00 p.m.

Open Instruction during the week of August 4 – August 10 will be:

  • Thursday, August 7 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. (emphasis on quilting, binding, free-motion, etc)
  • Friday, August 8 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Open Instruction during the week of August 11 – August 17 will be:

  • Wednesday, August 13 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 14 from 1:45 – 4:45 p.m. (emphasis on quilting, binding, free-motion, etc)
  • Sunday, August 17 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Open Instruction during the week of August 18 – august 24 will be:
  • Wednesday, August 20 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 21 from 1:45 – 4:45 (emphasis on quilting, binding, free-motion, etc)
  • Sunday, August 24 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Open Instruction during the week of August 25 – August 31 will be:
  • Wednesday, August 27 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
 The cost is $20. No need to sign up. Just bring whatever you’re working on and your machine (if you’ve got one), and sew in the company of someone who can help and answer questions. machine-sewing 101 for kids and adults

We’ve added another session of this popular workshop on Saturday, August 9 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

 

This workshop is for adults and kids ages 8 and up but 6 & 7 year-olds may attend with adult friends. (Adult/child pairs need only to sign up for one spot.)

 

Whether you just got a new sewing machine or you’ve had one for years that you’re afraid to touch, this workshop is for you!* Just bring your machine and your manual, and join Sarah Terry for step-by-step instruction on how to thread the needle, wind the bobbin, and perform other amazing feats! This workshop is for basic sewing only. No toy machines, embroidery machines, or machines that utilize computerized design programs please!

 

Participants will apply these skills toward making pincushions to use in future sewing projects.

 

All supplies are included in the $35 workshop fee.

 

*Those who do not own machines but would like to take advantage of this beginning sewing class may rent one of four shop machines for the workshop. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Machine-Sewing 101 workshop. Those who prefer to sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) may do so during Sew Memphis business hours.

Alterations Workshop with Haley

This is a one-session workshop from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

 

Sewists with basic machine knowledge are invited to learn Haley Franklin‘s secrets for sprucing up those sidelined garments in your closet! Haley worked in costume design in Los Angeles before her move to Memphis, and her sewing and design skills were recently debuted in the Ballet Memphis production of Peter Pan!

 

Each participant will bring a garment that needs some TLC, from hemming, to patching, to taking in and letting out, to embellishing. Students will make adjustments to their own pieces and learn from each other’s projects as well.

 

Participants may bring their own machines or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Those who prefer not to sign up online may sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) during Sew Memphis business hours.

Girls’ Peasant Dress Series

This is a two-session series that meets on Wednesday, September 10 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, September 13 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

 

Sewists with basic machine knowledge are invited to join Claire Steinriede  in sewing sweet fall dresses for little girls (sizes 1-6)! Adults only, please. Students will learn basic garment-making skills, including how to follow a pattern and how to use elastic to add interest to sleeves and necklines. Sleeves can be long or short, and the garment can be created as a dress or a top to wear with pants.

 

Bring your own machine or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Girl’s Peasant Dress Series. Those who prefer to sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) may do so during Sew Memphis business hours.

 

In addition to the $45 class fee, students will need to purchase/provide up to 1.5 yards of fabric (depending upon size), the dress pattern, coordinating thread, optional ribbon for embellishing, and elastic. All supplies will be available at Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount. A more detailed supply list will be sent in the confirmation email to those who register.

Shift Lab

 

This is a two-session series that meets on Thursday, October 15  from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

 

Sewists with basic machine knowledge are invited to create retro modern shift dresses with Claire Steinriede! Adults only, please. Participants will use body measurements, pattern templates (sizes XS – XL), sample shifts, and their own design ideas to create custom, one-of-a-kind dresses just in time for the fall chill and boot season! Create a simple over-the-head shift, or experiment with zippers, embellished sleeves, and the like. Claire will share her zipper tips and variations, and fellow classmates will be there to give input and assist! Leave with a personalized pattern that you can use again and again!

 

 

Participants will need to purchase/provide 2-4 yards of fabric (depending upon size), coordinating thread, red dot pattern paper, and a 22″ zipper (optional). All supplies are available for purchase at Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount. A more detailed supply list will be included in the confirmation email sent to those who register.

Funky Woven Placemat Series

This is a two-session series that meets on Saturdays, November 1 and 8 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

 

Sewists and crafters of all skill levels are invited to join Jeannine La Bate, our resident dream weaver, in making these festive, woven fabric placemats just in time for the holidays! Adults are welcome, as well as kids who are ages 12 and up. (Younger kids may attend with adult friends; each adult/child pair needs only to sign up for one spot).

 

Students will learn how to turn 1 and 1/3 yards of fabric into a beautiful piece of table art using basic sewing and weaving techniques.

 

Bring your own machine or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Funky Woven Placemat Series. Those who prefer to sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) may do so during Sew Memphis business hours.

 

Supplies for this series are not included in the $45 instruction fee but can be purchased from Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount. Students will need 1 and 1/3 yards of fabric, a 12″x 18″ wooden frame, and a $3 class “kit” that will include nails, spray starch, etc.

Kids’ Fringe Bag Workshop

This is a one-session workshop on Saturday, November 15 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

 

Boys and girls ages 6-12 who have basic machine-sewing experience are invited to join Jeannine La Bate in combining fabric, burlap, and yarn to create fabulous cross-body bags with woven accents! Participants may make messenger bags or purses as they learn basic construction and weaving techniques and design one-of-a-kind accessories!

 

Bring your own machine or sign up early to rent one of four shop machines. Machine-rental tickets must be purchased in conjunction with tickets to the Fringe Bag Workshop. Those who prefer to sign up in person or over the phone (via credit card) may do so during Sew Memphis business hours.

 

Supplies for this series are not included in the $35 instruction fee but can be purchased from Sew Memphis at a 10% class discount. Students will need 1/2 yard of fabric, coordinating thread, and a $3 class “kit” that will include all weaving and handle supplies.
